How uploads work, and what if a connection drops
Why recordings survive bad internet, and what to do if someone closes their tab early.
Vidiicast records each person on their own computer, not over the call. Here’s what happens to their recording:
- It’s saved on their computer every few seconds.
- New parts upload at least every 30 seconds, and retry on their own if the internet drops.
- When you stop, the last part is sent and we check everything arrived.
- Only then is the copy on their computer deleted.
The bottom corner of the studio shows how it’s going. When it says Uploads complete, it’s safe to close the tab.
If someone’s internet drops
They keep recording. It says “Offline. Recording is safe here and will upload when you’re back.” When the connection returns, it catches up.
If someone closes the tab or their computer crashes
Ask them to open the same link again on the same computer and browser. The upload carries on from where it stopped.
If someone never comes back
Ten minutes after their last upload, we finish their file with whatever arrived. You don’t have to wait: on the recording’s Files tab, press Use what arrived.
Last resort
If an upload is stuck, Save a copy in the studio downloads what’s stored on that computer, so they can send it to you another way.
