Vidiicast

Vidiicast for audio podcasts

Podcast audio that sounds like you were in the same room.

Every mic is recorded on its own computer as an uncompressed WAV. You get clean, separate tracks to mix, not a squashed recording of a call.

A clean track for every voice.

With studio audio on, each mic is recorded raw: no noise suppression, no automatic levels, nothing the call does to squeeze sound down the internet. Every person gets their own 48 kHz, 24-bit WAV, in stereo if their interface sends it.

  • Level, clean and cut each voice on its own
  • Talk over each other without losing a word
  • Works with USB mics and audio interfaces

A dropout on the call isn’t a dropout in the recording.

The recording happens on each computer, not over the call. If someone’s internet stutters, you might hear it live, but their file doesn’t. It saves as they talk and catches up when the connection’s back.

  • Saved every few seconds on each computer
  • Uploaded as you go, never more than about 30 seconds behind
  • Reopen the link after a crash and it finishes on its own

Show notes before you open your editor.

Because every voice is its own file, the transcript knows exactly who said what. You get a summary for your podcast app, chapters with timestamps and show notes, written in plain Australian English.

  • Paste chapters straight into Spotify, Apple or YouTube
  • Search the transcript and click to jump there
  • Download the transcript as text or subtitles

Audio questions

Do we all need headphones?
Yes, ideally. Studio audio records each mic raw, so without headphones a mic picks up the other voices from the speakers. A guest without headphones can tick Echo cancellation on the join screen, which fixes the echo but makes their audio sound a bit more like a call.
What microphone should I use?
Any USB mic or audio interface your computer recognises. Pick it on the join screen. If your interface sends two channels, the WAV is stereo.
Can we record audio only?
Anyone can turn their camera off with the camera button (or press V), and their mic keeps recording to its own WAV.
How big are the files?
About 0.5 GB an hour for each mono WAV, or 1 GB for stereo. Video is extra, depending on the quality you choose. See recording quality.
