What you need to record
Browsers, headphones, internet speed and disk space for the best recordings.
Computer and browser
A laptop or desktop with an up-to-date Chrome or Microsoft Edge, on Mac or Windows. They record MP4 files that open in every editor. Firefox works but records WebM, which some editors need converting first. Safari works but is less tested. We don’t recommend phones or tablets for recording.
Headphones
Everyone should wear headphones, wired if possible. Bluetooth headphones add a delay and can drop your mic quality. Without headphones, turn on Echo cancellation on the join screen.
Internet
Recordings upload while you talk. To keep up live, aim for an upload speed of about:
- 720p: 4 Mbps
- 1080p: 9 Mbps
- 4K: 26 Mbps
Add about 2 Mbps for the WAV of your mic. If your connection is slower, nothing is lost. The rest uploads after you stop, as long as you keep the tab open.
Disk space
Each recording is saved on your computer until it’s uploaded, then deleted. Leave free space for at least the size of one episode: about 4 GB an hour at 1080p, or 12 GB at 4K.
